Scientific Description
|
Glutathione is a tripeptide. It contains an unusual peptide linkage between the amine group of cysteine and the carboxyl group of the glutamate side chain. Glutathione, an antioxidant, protects cells from toxins such as free radicals. Glutathione can also modify proteins via cysteine residues to form the glutationylated proteins via disulfide bonds. Redox proteomics of glutathionylated proteins, in oxidatively stressed human T lymphocytes, have been reported.
